About Us

"Medaase" is the first word that Louise learned in the little Pepease village, in the Kwahu region in Ghana. Medaase means "thank you" in Twi, a local dialect.

Louise met Faustina and her son Samuel during a volunteering project in Ghana. They are local craftsmen and have a little tailoring activity in a little village close by, named Mpraeso. Here there is a local market where Louise got suddenly amused by the colors and motives of local outfits.

Willing to dress in the traditional colorful way, Louise returned several times to the market to try out new dresses and styles. Eventually, she became friends with Faustina and Samuel and started together to design and create some accessories that she could give to her friends at her return to France.

Inspired by the notable appreciation received by the gifts given to friends, Louise and Francesco decided to renew their support of the local community by launching Medaase. The project has the goal of supporting remote communities in the Kwahu region of Ghana, to develop local craftsmanship. In partnership with local artisans and entrepreneurs, they decided to create the ethical fashion brand Medaase.

Medaase relies on traditional African wax to valorize gifted artisans and their know-how. For more than 25 years, Faustina is a professional tailor, inspiring her local community with her knowledge. She is in charge of the production, transforming fabrics into unique products. Her son, Samuel, is a young entrepreneur and is the key local partner taking care of various project's needs and requirements. He is also the interpreter translating English into Twi, and vice-versa, to address the project's needs in terms of procurement of local fabrics and production.

From the selection of fabrics to production, we collaborate together to make unique and ethical accessories. Selling our production allows a fair remuneration for Mpraeso artisans. We also aim at investing in our partners' equipment to bring further means to develop local production. Moreover, we are directly involved in the financing of volunteering projects based in the region, including projects in the education field like school building and renovation.
